Ong Yi En, Beacon Primary School
This artwork reflects upon several aspects of Singapore that Yi En is most proud of. Drawn on the leftmost hand are numerous local delicacies such as chilli crab, tu tu kueh, satay, chicken rice and roti prate. This is a powerful representation of our food culture, and by extension, the richness of our multicultural society. The hand in the middle draws focus on our essential workers, whom Yi En respects the most because of their courage in fighting through the Covid-19 crisis.
Meanwhile, the hand on the right depicts some of Singapore’s most distinctive national icons such as the Merlion, Singapore Flyer and Vanda Miss Joaquim flower. By portraying these hands all raised together, she hopes to emphasise how these different aspects come together to create a truly distinctive Singapore.
